Max Brand (1892–1944), pen name of American novelist and poet Frederick Faust, who was one of the earliest mass-market authors, writing over 500 novels. The majority of his books were Westerns, the first of which was The Untamed in 1918. His most famous Western novel was Destry Rides Again (1930), which was made into a film in 1939 starring Marlene Dietrich and James Stewart. He was also the creator of Dr Kildare, which later became a popular television series.
